Airport MAX
This 5.5-mile light rail extension offers travelers a direct transit connection between downtown Portland, Ore., and the Portland International Airport. The extension added four new station platforms to the route, a new 500-foot multi-span precast prestressed concrete girder bridge over Interstate 205, and a new pedestrian bridge between the Parkrose Station platform and a park-and-ride lot.
Maintaining traffic on I-205 during construction was a critical component of the project. DEA maintained close working relationships with the project owners and the technical team to design a solution that allowed construction to occur while avoiding long-term interruption to highway and heavy rail traffic under the bridge.
DEA was the design consultant to Bechtel Infrastructure Co., for this design-build project. DEA provided project management; agency coordinatoion; bridge, civil, structural, and traffic engineering; surveying and mapping, environmental assessments, and support during construction.
