Ovrom Park Design
DEA landscape architects and civil engineers provided master planning and final design services for this two-acre neighborhood park located along Burbank, California’s revitalized corridor, South San Fernando Boulevard.
The park design appeals to all ages and makes exceptional use of the small space, featuring playgrounds, a regulation-size basketball court, walking paths, covered picnic areas, open-play turf areas, and quiet spaces. The park also includes a 7,025 square foot community center that houses programmed recreational activities.
The unique park entryway, signage and fencing incorporate the work of a local artist. Protecting environmental resources and implementing sustainable practices were of utmost importance to the design team. The park plaza uses decomposed granite paving that reduces heat and glare and allows water to drain into the soil. The bosque of trees in the courtyard and green screens throughout the park provide a naturally cooling effect. The planting design uses drought tolerant plants that provide shade, screen and color. The irrigation system uses recycled water and is controlled by a centralized system that monitors soil moisture levels, weather patterns, and system pressure loss to ensure efficient water use.
DEA assisted the city of Burbank in developing and implementing a comprehensive community involvement process that resulted in a park design that incorporated the community’s needs and concerns.
