Co-ops and Internships

Co-op opportunities

A co-op education program brings the worlds of education and work together through alternating sessions of full-time work and full-time study. On the job, students learn first-hand about their potential career by working directly with professionals in their field. In the classroom, students study the theory that makes their work meaningful. This merging of work and study results in a top-quality education. Co-ops provide valuable opportunities for students, employers, and universities to work together to benefit one another.

Current co-op partnerships

Oregon State University Engineering Department offers students unique internship experiences. Qualifying students participate in two different, six-month-long, paid internships at regional companies that are part of the Multiple Engineering Cooperative Program (MECOP) and its sister program for civil engineering students, CECOP. DEA is one of more than 70 companies that host the interns.

DEA also participates in the Advanced Technical Experience Program (ATEP) offered through the Professional Practice Program at Purdue University. Beginning in their junior year, the student will spend three work sessions with DEA. To provide a well rounded experience, each work session will be in a new location and will focus on a new business line.

Past co-op students have worked in our Phoenix, Salem and Denver offices and have gained work experience in our land development, structural, survey and transportation groups. As the program expands, future co-op programs may include rotations in Portland and our Puget Sound Region, in addition to potential work experiences in our water resources and energy groups.
